The Island of Jersey plays host to the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race from Friday 19 September until Tuesday 23 September 2003. On this page, we will bring you information on the organised events, special deals on travel and accommodation, and ideas of what to see and do during your stay.
There is a wonderful old pub in the middle of Liverpool opposite the Philharmonic Theatre called 'the Philharmonic' It is art deco and has a private area of the bar that we can go into. (the men's urinals are a quite superb example of art deco and world famous. Even ladies go in for a peek at them!!) Very central and easy to find, and great atmosphere. For those who want to eat, we can then go on to the Everyman Bistro just along the road, which is excellent food and very reasonable. No bookings necessary, for either venue.
On the morning of Saturday 27th September when the boats arrive we have a private area set aside in the Pan American Club at the Albert Dock where friends and family of arriving crew members can get. It will be open from 8.30am and to access the private area please just mention my name (Carol Blyth) if asked.
If you would like to be out on the water to see the finish, the Mersey ferry company are organising special trips - please contact them direct on www.merseyferries.co.uk or 0151 330 1444.
In the evening there will be a crew party at St George's Hall which is in the centre of Liverpool starting at 6.30pm. Each crew member has been allocated one ticket for this party plus an additional 2 guest tickets (these cost £15 each). Payment for these tickets is to be sent to the Clipper Office (payable to Clipper Ventures Plc) by Friday 5th September, in an envelope marked 'Crew Party' and please specify which crew member you are a guest of.
We are aware that this allocation may mean some people will be disappointed but unfortunately due to a constraint on numbers we are unable to allocate more than 2 guest tickets per crew member. However we will be operating a waiting list and will be allocating any extra tickets after Friday 5th September. If you would like to apply for extra tickets then please send a separate cheque to the Clipper office (to be cashed only if tickets are allocated). These tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis, but please be aware that it is unlikely we will be able to issue more than 2 extra tickets to each crew member in order to ensure an even distribution.
We all look forward to seeing you there
Kind Regards
The Race Team
