The crew of Jersey Clipper would like to thank the following for helping to make the dream come true:
And special thanks to Itex for sponsoring this web site. The Jersey entry in the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race 2002 is the result of an enormous organising and fundraising effort on the part of the Jersey Clipper Committee, a group of individuals who believe in the value of the island's involvement in the race and contribute their time and effort to promoting the event locally and supporting the crew. The work of the Committee is greatly valued by the crew, and we would like to acknowledge and thank the following: Senator Pierre Horsfall - chairman of the Jersey Clipper Committee and the Island's senior politician. A former aeronautical engineer, he spent six years working on the development of Concorde before returning to his native Jersey and entering the States of Jersey as a Deputy. He has held a number of major committee presidencies and is currently president of the Policy & Resources Committee. He has twice been elected World Treasurer of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association whose membership represents a quarter of the world's population. More recently he has represented Jersey on the British Irish Council and has participated in all three BIC summits, the last of which was held under his chairmanship in Jersey in June 2002. Andrew Courtness - Jersey Harbours Commercial Director - point of liaison for anything needed from the Harbours. Keen amateur yachtsman if no more than 6 hours between restaurants. Philip Jeune - journalist, publisher and public relations consultant. Keen interest in all matters maritime. Sailed with Jersey Clipper on the New York/Jersey/Portsmouth races in Times Clipper 2000. Matthew Jones - director of The Jersey Pottery and Restaurants which combines a working pottery and retail showroom, The Garden Restaurant, Spinnakers Bar & Grill in Gorey, an outside catering company and three sandwich bars in Jersey and one in Guernsey. He came back to the Island seven years ago to work in the family business after a Hotel Management course at Westminster College and gaining experience working in hotels, bars and restaurants in France and Australia. Bob Norman - treasurer of the Jersey Clipper Committee. He recently retired after 35 years with Commodore Shipping and Condor and is keenly interested in the sea and all nautical activities. As well as serving on the 2000/1 Jersey Clipper Committee he has also supported the Channel Island rowers in both the 1997 and 2001 Atlantic Rowing Races. John Searson - weather forecaster. Looking after school's projects for Jersey Clipper. After his successful row across the Atlantic in 1997 John came up with the idea of a Jersey crew entering a round-the-world yacht race. This led to the first Jersey Clipper. John's interests are all things to do with water - which includes running the annual charity Dragon Boat Challenge. Claire Thorn - Event Manager, Delta Conference Systems. Responsible with a sub committee for organising the logistics of the land side 'party' events for when Clipper 2002 returns. Runs a mile from sailing after struggling to make it from Jersey to Southampton aboard Jersey Clipper in 2000. Peter Walsh - Commodore of St Helier Yacht Club and a keen yachtsman who sails a Moody 34. A Past President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, qualified banker, and part-time author who now runs his own consultancy and computer business. Has many miles of sailing experience not only in Biscay and the Channel but also in the Aegean and Mediterranean. Is looking forward to his first Atlantic crossing in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers this November/December. Jersey Clipper finished second in the Times Clipper 2000 race, beaten by Bristol by the narrowest of margins. You can read about how she fared and some of the history of Jersey's involvement with the race here. |
